Case Study: Professional Brochure Design for De Klerk Safaris

The Challenge

When De Klerk Safaris reached out to me to update their marketing brochure, I knew the task involved much more than just swapping out a few dates. This project required a complete refresh of the cover and back page, the addition of several new sections, and a total overhaul of the layout architecture.

The biggest hurdle wasn’t just the design—it was the technical transition. The previous version was built as a standard A4 single-page document. For this update, I moved them to a professional double-page spread (DPS) design for print. To the untrained eye, this looks like a simple visual change, but for me, it meant recalculating margins, gutters, and page numbering to ensure everything aligns perfectly once the physical book is bound.

The Solution

Experience has taught me that the quality of the final product is only as good as the raw materials. Several of the new photos provided for the brochure were saved at 72dpi—fine for a smartphone screen, but disastrous for high-end printing. Even with high-resolution dimensions, low-density images appear “muddy” or pixelated on paper.

  • Image Optimization: I utilized Gigapixel AI to upscale the images to a crisp 300dpi, ensuring the texture of the African landscape remained sharp. I then moved into Photoshop for precise cropping and color correction to ensure a cohesive aesthetic.

  • Layout & Integration: I did the heavy lifting in CorelDRAW, where I managed the complex layout and integrated new QR codes. These codes bridge the gap between the physical brochure and the digital platforms, allowing hunters to jump directly from a page to a video or a booking form.

  • Pre-Press Management: I handled the technical imposition myself, ensuring that when the files hit the print shop, there were no “surprises” regarding page order or bleed areas.

The Result

The final product is a premium, print-ready brochure that reflects the high-end experience De Klerk Safaris offers. By managing the technical complexities of the DPS transition and image upscaling, I protected the client from the costly mistake of a “blurry” print run.

Beyond the physical copies, I also provided an optimized, low-resolution web version. This allows the team to instantly share their new offerings with international clients via WhatsApp and email, ensuring their marketing is as mobile as they are.
