ATHÉNAÏA Logo Design

The Problem

ATHÉNAÏA, a luxury lifestyle brand, came to me with a very specific, high-detail brief: a sophisticated brand mark anchored by a ginkgo leaf and premium serif typography. However, the project hit early friction due to a significant miscommunication regarding the aesthetic nuances.

The technical challenge was twofold: first, the client’s initial font preferences didn’t translate to a high-end look. Second, the organic detail of a ginkgo leaf is a “production trap”—if it’s too delicate, the fine lines simply disappear or bleed into a mess when scaled down for clothing tags or embroidery.

The Solution

To fix the trajectory, I threw out the standard workflow and implemented a rigid, milestone-based “Technical Approval” process.

  • Typography “Lock-In”: I stripped away all graphics and focused purely on the wordmark. This forced a focus on the character and weight of the typeface. We landed on a modern, timeless European serif that set the right luxury tone.
  • The “Production-Ready” Icon: I took the organic ginkgo concept through a rigorous refinement phase in CorelDRAW—a tool I’ve used daily for 20 years. I manually simplified the leaf’s internal paths, removing excessive detail that would fail during small-scale printing or physical tagging, while retaining the “blooming” organic feel.
  • Monogram Engineering: The breakthrough was the monogram integration, where the serif ‘A’ naturally transitions into the ginkgo leaf. I engineered this mark to be modular; it works as a standalone icon for social avatars and garment labels, or as part of the full wordmark.
  • High-Contrast Palette: I established a specific “Chocolate Charcoal” and “Metallic Gold” palette. By using high-contrast tones, I ensured the gold elements would pop without looking muddy, even when converted to standard print profiles.

The Result

The result is a production-ready brand identity system. ATHÉNAÏA now has a modular logo that holds its premium feel across all mediums—from massive digital banners down to the smallest physical garment tag. By resetting the workflow and focusing on technical constraints early, we turned a miscommunication into a cohesive, luxurious visual engine.
