Case Study: Wonder Computers – High-Resolution Product Engineering
Project Overview
Wonder Computers required a comprehensive product catalog to serve as a bridge between their in-store inventory and their extended orderable range. The goal was to create a clean, professional layout that allowed customers to navigate complex technical specifications with ease.
The Challenge: The “Low-Res” Hurdle
A common issue in tech retail is receiving low-resolution product imagery from various suppliers. For this project, many of the source images were not print-quality. To ensure the final 300dpi output didn’t look pixelated or “cheap,” I implemented a technical workaround:
AI Image Enhancement: I utilized AI image upscalers to reconstruct detail in low-resolution source files.
Quality Restoration: This process transformed web-sized images into high-quality 300dpi assets, ensuring that every laptop, component, and peripheral looked crisp on the printed page.
The Solution: Precision Layout & Production
Taking inspiration from industry-standard catalogs, I built the entire project in CorelDRAW to maintain maximum control over vector elements and typography.
Information Architecture: The layout was designed to highlight both “In-Stock” and “Order-Only” items, helping the client manage customer expectations and sales flow.
Print-Grade Execution: I didn’t just deliver a “pretty file.” The final PDF was engineered for professional offset printing, including:
Bleed Allowances: To ensure no white edges after trimming.
Crop & Registration Marks: To assist the print house with alignment and finishing.
Color Profile Management: Optimized for accurate CMYK reproduction.
The Result: A Tool for Growth
The final catalog was delivered in both CorelDRAW (source) and Print-Ready PDF formats. Wonder Computers now possesses a high-end marketing asset that enhances their brand authority and simplifies the purchasing process for their customers.
